I'm there for important burn phases and I'm doing quite respectable dps any time I am, but that's not what my goal is. Pretty much anything where mobility plays a part, I'm volunteering for anything important so others can focus more on their dps. My concern with every raid fight is making sure the raid doesn't wipe and functions as smoothly as possible. That means I'm running away to soak on relevant fights, I do pods on High Command, I run all the fires for Portal Keeper, etc. I've always prioritized mechanics over dps, even when said mechanics require me to run all over the place away from the boss.
The problem with something like a 'log score' is it would favor people who don't understand/can't be bothered with mechanics.
